Engaging Arts

Come together as a family to get engaged with the arts!  Once per month a library staff member will lead children, tweens, and their grown-ups through an artistic experience. 

  • September: Mural with Two Trees Inc. or Dayton International Peace Museum
  • October: Slightly Scary Open Mic
  • November: Printmaking and Centerpiece Carving with Ivory Soap
  • December: 20th Century Percussion (bang along to music from every decade of the 20th century--ragtime, jazz, motown, R&B, rap, EDM, etc.)

Astronaut Fitness

The Armstrong Air and Space Museum teaches kids what it takes to be fit for space exploration! Kids will participate in activities that optimize mission readiness, critical for months spent in space. Museum staff will demonstrate the difficulties of working in an Apollo -style spacesuit.

Spectrum Playdate

At this spectrum-friendly socialization opportunity, elementary-age children can play at activity stations all around the meeting room.  A cool down/transition station and a snack station will be included at every playdate.  Normative and non-normative children are equally encouraged to attend! 

  • September theme: Totally “T” featuring Dogtors Therapy Dogs
  • October theme: Jolly Old England featuring Trill Seekers (flute group from University of Dayton New Horizons Music Program)
  • November theme: Magic Tricks featuring a guest magician.

Book Buddies

Read and have a snack with a library teen volunteer or play a literacy game. Counts towards your Summer Reading Club time! For pre-school through third grade.
